Autumn forest and mushrooms
::journeys 2009::

Autumn and Norwegian forest. Looking for mushrooms.

Autumn is here. Time to walk the forest and look for extraterrestrials shooting up from the forest floor. Not so interested in picking them this year – rather watching their beauty – remembering the dreams and elves they carries within. The first images are from a walk in the forest in Bamble together with my mother late in August.

The reunion with the spirit of this creature; Amanita Muscaria or the fly agar. After the Amanita diet last autumn this one will keep having a special place in my heart. I now know a little what is behind its mysterious white spotted, red veil.

A few days shining its beauty before dissolving back into the soil.

So, at least one of us is doing what you’re supposed to do when picking mushrooms – that is – to pick mushrooms.

The mushroom hunter.

A big basket with gathered mushrooms. Not exactly filled, but enough for a reward of two delicious sandwiches back home.

Blue and a little spooky. Probably not suitable for consuming and best left at the place where it’s popping out of the moss and into existence.

Maybe what humans looks like from the perspective of a mushroom?

The number of ticks have increased a lot the recent years. Ending up with borreliosis last year, a thorough inspection of the body is done after each walk into the forest, which also this time yielded results. This tick is one of the lucky immortalized and portraited ones – given all possible photographic attention; a small swimming pool and proper lightning.

The aura of a tick like fractal shadows.

A Romanesco broccoli legally bought at the grocery store continuing the fractal theme.

The following images are from the woods at Nesodden some weeks later. This image shows mushrooms on a fallen birch.

A family of unknown inhabitants.

This autumn’s first trip into the forest to look for psilocybe semilanceata, finding none but instead coming over the fly agaric again.

Hmm… something is wrong with the size here. Just feeling so small.

…one pill makes you larger
and one pill makes you small
and the ones that mother gives you
don’t do anything at all…

…a hookah smoking caterpillar has given you the call

…feed your head

Beyond the green glow the voices that whispers from plants can still be heard.

Amanita Muscaria.

I still have big respect for this peculiar plant teacher – giving it my song of gratitude and a silent meditation for past journeys and teachings.

Feeling more safe letting the shadow deal with the gathering. No entheogenic journeys with this fellow for this season. A too difficult sacrament to deal with for now. Although, the voice of the teacher will continue to whisper – and the shadow knows it all.

Hi there,
I’ve recently purchased 25g of whole dried fly agaric. I weighed out one cap (3.2grams) I tore it up and boiled it in a pan of water for 5 minutes. I drank the liqour and swallowed the chunks of mushroom just to be sure. To be honest I wouldn’t say anything happened. My vision possibly became quite high definition about 2 hours later.
Am I doining it wrong?? Is one cap (3 grams) too small a dose?? Should it be a ritual like cosuming a druids brew every hour for 5 hours?? I just dont know! There is sooo little info on them!!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The way I’ve been doing ceremonies with the Amanita, is with 15g dried mushrooms, finely grinded in a mortar and then soaked in boiling hot water for 15 minutes into a tea. The half, 7g, is probably a good place to start. It’s utterly important to dry the mushrooms completely before ingestion, as the drying process will transform some of the otherwise unpleasant or dangerous components. Stirring the cup a little while drinking makes everything go down. Please note that the Fly Agaric is highly unpredictable when it comes to strength and composition of active compounds. Do thorough research before merging with this teacher. Have you checked out Erowid? Good luck :-)
